Lurainya's AMRITA CANDRA!

Because dance can say more than words:
  • AMRITA CANDRA (ahm-REE-tah KAHN-drah), Hindu for Nectar of the Moon, is a large-scale, dance-theater production that honors the struggle, strength and sensuality of women around the world!

  • Based on ritualistic dances from cultures around the globe that celebrate the stages of a woman’s life

  • Traditional styles represented will include Indian, African, Tahitian, Middle Eastern, Native American, and more! Also included are modern fusion pieces, blending a myriad of styles together, creating a new beauty!

  • After raising cultural awareness, inspiring audiences, and supporting the arts, the power of this show continues with proceeds going to female education

  • After raising cultural awareness, empowering women, and supporting the arts, the power of this show continues by sharing proceeds with Camfed International (Campaign for Female Education: educating women and girls
    in Africa)
  • Of the 1.2 billion people living in poverty, 70% are women

  • Women make up 2/3 of the 1+ billion people without an education

  • The majority of uneducated women & girls endure rape, beatings, and mutilations, sometimes daily

  • It is proven that educating impoverished women and girls not only gives them a chance to escape abuse, but they often become invaluable to the successful development of their families and their communities
